Business development reps are hired to start conversations that would not happen otherwise. A strong BDR resume shows exactly that: new accounts opened, meetings created from cold outreach, and pipeline that would not exist without you.
Titles vary from company to company. Some teams use BDR for outbound and SDR for inbound; others use the names interchangeably. Whatever your title, make your resume clear about which motion you ran, because hiring managers read outbound results differently from inbound ones.
What hiring managers want from a BDR resume
- Outbound meetings booked or held, against your monthly or quarterly target.
- Pipeline sourced from your own outreach, in dollars where possible.
- New logos or new territories you helped open.
- Target accounts: named account lists, ideal customer profiles, or account based campaigns you worked.
- Buyer level: the titles you reached, especially senior ones.
- Channels: phone, email, LinkedIn, events, partners.
- Ranking and recognition within the team.
Make the motion obvious
Add one context line under each job title that covers the company, what it sells, and your focus. For example: "Outbound BDR for a Series B logistics software company, selling to operations leaders at US manufacturers." That single line tells a reader how hard your job was and how to judge your numbers.
Before and after examples
These are illustrations. Replace the placeholders with your own real figures.

Example 2

- After: "Opened the healthcare segment from zero, booking the first [X] meetings that led to [X] closed deals."
Example 3
- Before: "Reached out to senior decision makers."
- After: "Booked [X] meetings with VP level buyers in [year], [X]% of the team's executive meetings."
Example 4

- After: "Ran follow up for [X] event campaigns, turning [X] attendees into qualified meetings."
Example 5

Show the quality of your pipeline, not just the volume
Many BDR teams are measured on meetings, but hiring managers know that meetings only matter if they turn into real opportunities. If you can show conversion from meeting to opportunity, or the revenue that your sourced deals eventually closed for, include it. It is one of the strongest signals that you understand the business, not just the activity.
Where to find your numbers
Look in your CRM reports if you still have access, old one to one notes, quarterly reviews, commission statements and team leaderboards. Former managers often remember rankings. Write everything down first, then choose the three to five strongest results per role.
Mistakes that weaken a BDR resume
- Listing tools as achievements. Knowing Outreach, Salesloft or Apollo is useful, but it belongs in a skills line, not your top bullet.
- Activity totals with no outcome. Pair calls and emails with what they produced.
- Vague words like "exceeded targets". Say by how much, and against what.
- Leaving out inbound or outbound. The reader needs to know which one you ran.
- Inventing figures. Interviewers will ask you to walk through your numbers, so use only what you can explain.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference between a BDR and an SDR resume?
A: The structure is the same. The difference is emphasis: BDR resumes usually lead with outbound pipeline and new accounts, while SDR resumes often include inbound qualification. Say clearly which motion you ran.
Q: How many bullets should each BDR role have?
A: Three to five for recent roles. Lead with your strongest result against target.
Q: Should I list the sales tools I used?
A: Yes, in a short skills line. Keep your bullets for results.
Q: What if my company didn't track pipeline in dollars?
A: Use what was tracked, such as meetings held, opportunities created or your ranking. Any honest, specific measure is better than none.
